I Was Sick of Copy-Pasting to ChatGPT.
So I Built a Tool That Saves Me Hours.

Hi! I'm a developer, and like many of you, I rely on AI assistant tools like ChatGPT and Gemini every single day. My products have a global user base, which means I'm constantly writing support replies, filing tickets, and just communicating across different cultures. AI is a lifesaver for this, but the process itself was driving me crazy.

The Problem: Too Much Copy-Pasting

You know the routine:

1. Type your text in a browser window.
2. Highlight and copy (Cmd+C).
3. Open a new ChatGPT tab.
4. Paste your text, and then type a prompt: "fix my grammar," "translate this," "make this sound more friendly."
5. Copy the result.
6. Go back to the original tab and finally paste it.

When you do this 10, 20, or 50 times a day, this little dance becomes a massive waste of time and mental energy. The constant context switching was shattering my focus. One day, I just thought, "Enough. There has to be a better way."

How It Works: It's as Simple as I Dreamed It Could Be

My goal was to access the power of AI without ever leaving the text field I was typing in. Here's how my solution works:

1. No More Tabs

I just type my text and add a simple command at the end. For example, //fix and the text is instantly corrected, right in place. No copy-paste. Magic.

2. On-the-fly Translation

This is a game-changer. Need to reply to a user in French? Or draft a message in Japanese or Chinese? I just write my thoughts, add a command like //translate_fr or //translate_ja, and the language barrier disappears. Instantly.

3. Custom Prompt Shortcuts

My favorite prompts are now shortcuts. I have a few go-to prompts I use all the time. I saved them as custom commands (like //my_style) and now I can trigger them with a single word.

I also added other ways to use it—via keyboard shortcuts or a right-click context menu—so anyone can fit it into their own workflow.

I Realized I Wasn't the Only One With This Problem

At first, I was just happy that I'd made my own life easier. But then I showed the extension to a few friends—one in customer support, one in marketing. Their reaction was, "I need this. Now."

I realized ShortcutAi could help anyone who works with text online:

• Support agents answering dozens of tickets.
• Social media managers and copywriters constantly polishing posts.
• Developers writing docs or communicating on GitHub.
• Basically, anyone who wants to write clearly and quickly in different languages without the constant hassle.

A Quick Note on Why It's Not Entirely Free

I would honestly love to offer ShortcutAi for free, but unfortunately, it's not sustainable. The powerful AI models it relies on (from OpenAI, Google, etc.) cost money to use. There are also server costs and, of course, the time I pour into developing and supporting it.

But don't worry: I created a generous free plan. If you only need to transform text every now and then, it should be more than enough to get you started.
